The Charity committee has taken a break from visits and reports during the summer holidays, and we are now back at work with renewed energies. Before I tell you what awaits us during the last part of the charity year, let me start by describing what we have done in June.

The charity committee provided the Board with several recommendations in June, below is a list of the organisations that we agreed to help and how:

1) Civic Association Lighthouse of Hope - OZ Majak Nadeje, Kosice.
The funds will be used to purchase two sewing machines and sewing materials (linked to donation by fashion designer Gabriela Giotto).

2) Evangelic boarding primary school for deaf blind children - Ticho v tme deti v Cervenici, Červenica.
The funds will be used to buy elements for a playground: train and neuro-stimulating sidewalk.

3) Association of Community Centers - Asociácia komunitných centier, Košice.
The funds will be used to buy equipment for centers in 4 villages: 4 convector heaters, 3 notebooks, 3 printers, 2 writing desks, 20 chairs.

4) TIMI non-profit organization - TIMI n.o., Košice.
Funds will be used to buy a Therasuit, size L.Therasuit program is an intensive therapy program for children with cerebral palsy.

5) Kindergarten - Materská Škola, Rankovce
Funds will be used to buy essential items: beds and mattresses for the 22 children that attend the kindergarten, cabinets and stationery items.

6) Little Sun Center, non-profit org-Centrum Slniečko, Nitra
Funds will be used to buy a Garden house, table and benches.

7) Family Center Macko - RC Macko. Bratislava Dubravka.
Fnds will be used to buy 1 computer, 1 metal cabinet, and 2 doorbells.

8) Association VOTUM–Združenie VOTUM. Bratislava DNV.
Funds will be used to finance a one-week long swimming rehabilitation camp for children and young adults with physical and mental disabilities.

Besides making sure that the hard earned money from the last Christmas Bazaar is properly distributed every year, the charity committee is trying to get creative in the way we help others.
On June 25, right after coffee morning, members of the IWCB were able to see how Mrs. Mariana Kovačová from the Little Sun center in Nitra filled up her car with clothing, shoes, books, toys, and lots of other things donated by IWCB members. The Little Sun Center in Nitra provides assistance to women and children living in abusive environments, and they also provide shelter when the abused decide to leave the abusive situation and start over. Those women and children go to Centrum Slniecko with almost nothing, so our help was greatly appreciated.
We can organize more donations like this one if needed. Just let any of us at the committee know if you have things to donate and we will find you an organization who will welcome them.

These are the activities that the Charity committee will be focusing on during the last part of the year:
- Present remaining recommendations for funding to the board to make sure that most of the money is donated by the end of November 2013.
- Set aside some money from this years funding so that the Charity committee can continue to work at the beginning of 2014.
- Choose the organization that will be the recipient of the “IWCB Christmas gifts” donation.
- Define the list of charities that will be present at the Christmas bazaar selling their crafts.
The October charity committee meeting will take place on Monday, September 30.

Until next time,
María L. Maiale
IWCB Charity coordinator
